Despite assurances from the municipal corporation regarding the cleanliness of sewer lines, stagnant water persisted in several key areas, exacerbating commuting woes for residents and workers alike.
Major thoroughfares including Tonk Road, Sanganer, MI Road, Sodala, Ajmer Road, Civil Lines, and C-Scheme bore the brunt of the heavy downpour, with commuters reporting significant delays and lengthy traffic jams. A commuter traveling from Malviya Nagar to C-Scheme lamented, “Normally a 20-minute journey, today took over an hour due to flooded streets.”
In residential zones near Bani Park, C-Scheme, and surrounding the railway station, despite recent cleaning of sewer lines, accumulated waste overflowed back into the drains as rains intensified. A resident from Bani Park described the situation, saying, “The drains near my home were cleaned weeks ago, but debris left on the roads washed back into the sewers during Saturday’s heavy rainfall, causing flooding outside our houses.”
Authorities responded swiftly by deploying sandbags to mitigate waterlogging in affected areas and conducting thorough inspections of sewer lines to identify and resolve blockages promptly. An official from JMC Heritage assured, “We are actively addressing all complaints related to waterlogging. Continuous monitoring of city roads is underway to swiftly address water accumulation issues and restore normalcy.”
