Jaipur Development Authority Clears 150 Encroachments on Day One

Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has initiated a robust anti-encroachment drive across key road stretches in the city, marking the removal of approximately 150 structures on the first day alone.

The concerted effort, spanning 50 kilometres and targeting 11 locations identified by the Urban Development and Housing (UDH) department, aims to reclaim public spaces and facilitate upcoming infrastructure projects outlined in the city’s budget. On Monday, the JDA successfully cleared encroachments from a 3-kilometre stretch between Gopalpura Mod and Triveni Pulia, encompassing a variety of structures including extended platforms, stairs, ramps, boundary walls, stalls, carts, hoardings, and signboards. According to officials from JDA’s enforcement wing, the operation proceeded without incident, facilitated by meticulous planning and coordination among revenue and technical teams.

“This initiative is part of a larger strategy to prepare these road stretches for forthcoming elevated roads, flyovers, and railway over/under-bridges (ROB/RUB) projects outlined in the recent budgetary allocations,” stated the chief of JDA’s enforcement wing. The drive will continue across various locations until July 31, with Tuesday’s focus set on a 4-kilometre stretch from Mansarovar metro station to Shyam Nagar police station. While temporary structures are being promptly removed, JDA officials have also identified permanent encroachments, against which notices under Section 72 of the JDA Act 1982 will be issued. This legal measure aims to facilitate the eviction process post the ongoing drives, ensuring comprehensive restoration of public thoroughfares across Jaipur.

“The city’s infrastructural development goals necessitate these proactive measures to streamline urban spaces and pave the way for future expansion projects. By reclaiming these areas, Jaipur aims to enhance traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and overall civic amenities,” highlighted a JDA commissioner. As Jaipur continues to evolve as a burgeoning urban centre, initiatives like the anti-encroachment drive underscore the city’s commitment to sustainable growth and infrastructure modernization. The JDA’s systematic approach and adherence to legal frameworks ensure that urban planning aligns with the aspirations of its residents while fostering a conducive environment for economic development and quality of life improvements.
