IWAI and J&K Launch Visionary Cruise Tourism Project
The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has entered into a significant partnership with the Jammu and Kashmir Government to promote cruise tourism along three national waterways in the union territory. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on Thursday, aims to bolster tourism, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth, all while offering an eco-friendly, budget-conscious mode of leisure travel along the region’s picturesque rivers.
As part of this initiative, IWAI is set to install 10 floating jetties and develop both on-shore and off-shore infrastructure, which will be crucial for facilitating the smooth operation of cruise services. The Jammu and Kashmir Government has committed to providing essential land and road connectivity, enhancing accessibility for tourists and supporting the development of necessary on-shore facilities. Officials noted that this project is aligned with the government’s vision to harness the potential of India’s national waterways for sustainable growth and environmental preservation.
By integrating Jammu and Kashmir into the national inland waterways network, the initiative will also bring broader economic benefits, including enhanced trade, improved regional connectivity, and better access to tourism spots. Experts believe the project will have far-reaching consequences for the local economy.
