ITMS Implementation in Mysuru District Aims to Boost Road Safety
Mysuru district is set to witness a significant upgrade in its traffic management with the introduction of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) starting July 1. Spearheaded by SP Seema Latkar, the initiative aims to curb traffic rule violations, reduce accidents, and enhance overall road safety across the district.

The ITMS deployment spans 50 cameras installed at 23 critical locations within all taluk police station limits of Mysuru District, including prominent spots like Devalapura Circle on the ring road, Varuna Lake near Suttur Road junction, Bhugathagalli Gate Circle, Rammanahalli Junction, Yelwala Bypass Junction, Udburu Gate Junction, Cauvery Circle, and Santhemaala Circle in Bannur, among others.

“With an average of one to two fatalities daily due to road accidents, the implementation of ITMS is crucial to reducing such incidents and identifying responsible vehicles,” emphasized a spokesperson from Mysuru District Police. The ITMS infrastructure includes a centralized monitoring centre at Southern Range IGP and SP office premises in Mysuru, equipped with trained personnel to oversee operations round-the-clock. It will capture violations like triple riding, helmetless driving, seat belt negligence, and mobile phone usage while driving, ensuring swift issuance of SMS alerts and electronic challans to offenders.

Previously confined to Mysuru city, the extension of ITMS across the district underscores the police department’s commitment to enhancing traffic management and public safety. The move comes amidst concerning statistics for 2024, with 194 fatal accidents and 660 non-fatal accidents reported, resulting in 207 fatalities and 971 injuries. To streamline compliance, violators can settle fines conveniently via the designated online portal or at nearby police stations. Failure to comply may result in penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, including fines up to Rs 500- or three-months imprisonment, according to Mysuru District Police authorities. The introduction of ITMS is expected to deter traffic violations effectively and foster a culture of responsible driving across Mysuru District. By leveraging advanced technology, the initiative aims to create safer roads and improve overall traffic discipline for residents and commuters alike.
