In a strategic move aimed at enhancing passenger experience, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has entered into a collaboration with Swiggy, a leading food delivery platform, to facilitate the delivery of pre-ordered meals through the IRCTC e-catering portal. Commencing its services at four major railway stations—Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam—Swiggy is set to play a pivotal role in ensuring that train travellers enjoy a curated dining experience while in transit.
The maiden phase of this partnership marks Swiggy’s foray into the railway catering domain, with plans for a broader expansion to additional stations following the successful implementation of the initial stage. This venture is part of IRCTC’s broader strategy to forge alliances and collaborations, leveraging the expertise of leading food delivery platforms to extend its services to a wider network of railway stations, offering an extensive array of culinary options to its discerning customers.
In a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), IRCTC disclosed, “The e-catering service through Bundl Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (Swiggy Foods) may be available soon,” underscoring the corporation’s commitment to providing a seamless and diversified dining experience for railway passengers. This collaboration comes on the heels of IRCTC’s recent partnership with another prominent food delivery application, Zomato, aimed at delivering pre-ordered meals at select railway stations including New Delhi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Varanasi. These strategic alliances align with IRCTC’s mission to cater to the evolving preferences of its diverse customer base and enhance the overall quality of services. The integration of Swiggy’s robust delivery network into IRCTC’s e-catering platform is expected to significantly elevate the efficiency and accessibility of in-transit dining options for railway passengers. Given the substantial footfall in railway stations across the country, this collaboration holds the promise of a mutually beneficial venture, potentially amplifying Swiggy’s market presence while offering railway travellers an enhanced culinary journey.
As IRCTC continues to embrace innovative partnerships, the Swiggy collaboration stands as a testament to its commitment to modernise and elevate the dining experience for millions of passengers traversing the extensive railway network in India.
