Indraprastha Gas to Set Up CNG Stations at Noida International Airport to Promote Sustainable Mobility
Noida International Airport (NIA) has partnered with Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) to establish compressed natural gas (CNG) stations at the airport. This collaboration is part of a broader effort to integrate cleaner and more efficient energy solutions into the airport’s infrastructure, aligning with its commitment to creating a sustainable aviation hub.
The deal between NIA and IGL involves the construction of two CNG stations, strategically located within the airport precincts. One station will be positioned in the west precinct, while the other will be situated in the airside area. This dual setup aims to cater to the transportation needs of airport staff, travellers, and partners, providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional fuels. Additionally, the partnership will see the development of a City Gas Distribution (CGD) network to ensure seamless connectivity between the CNG stations and various airport facilities.
IGL will also be responsible for laying down the infrastructure required to supply piped natural gas (PNG) to food and beverage outlets, lounges, and kitchens within the terminal and other ancillary airport buildings. This will enhance the operational efficiency of the airport while ensuring that its energy needs are met sustainably. Christoph Schnellmann, the CEO of Noida International Airport, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “Our collaboration with IGL marks another step in our journey towards building a sustainable and future-ready airport. By integrating CNG infrastructure, we are providing cleaner fuel alternatives to airport users while supporting the broader transition to greener mobility in the region.”
