Indore Development Authority Plans Elevated Corridor to Tackle Traffic Congestion
Indore, Madhya Pradesh — In a significant move to address traffic congestion in Indore, the Indore Development Authority (IDA) has approved plans to build an elevated corridor spanning from Malwa Mill Square to Robot Square, with a focus on improving the flow of traffic along key urban routes. The decision was made during a board meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by Divisional Commissioner and IDA Chairman, Deepak Singh.
The elevated corridor, which will pass through prominent locations such as Wow Hotel, Rasoma Square, and Robot Square, is aimed at reducing traffic bottlenecks in these heavily congested areas. The IDA has decided to invite tenders for the appointment of a consultant who will prepare a feasibility report and a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed elevated stretch. This project is expected to be a game-changer in Indore’s urban infrastructure, helping to alleviate traffic woes and enhance connectivity. The meeting saw key discussions on several other important infrastructure projects aimed at transforming Indore into a more modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly city. Among the most significant decisions was the approval for the development of Nagar Van (Urban Forest) in the IDA’s Plan Number 97 Part-4. This project, which focuses on creating green spaces within the city, will contribute to improving Indore’s air quality and provide much-needed recreational areas for residents.
The board also reviewed the revised design for the Startup Park, located on the Super Corridor in Scheme Number 151. The project aims to provide a dedicated space for innovation and entrepreneurship, helping foster growth in Indore’s startup ecosystem. In line with this, the IDA decided to explore a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to further develop the park. Additionally, plans were presented for a convention centre to be built on a 17-hectare plot of land in Scheme Number 172. The convention centre will provide a much-needed facility to host international events, conferences, and exhibitions, enhancing Indore’s appeal as a destination for business and tourism. The board also focused on several other key projects. Among them was the review of a proposal for the maintenance and operation of the Senior Citizen Building and the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in various parts of Indore. These facilities are critical to improving public services and transportation in the city. Suggestions from the transaction advisor were discussed to ensure their efficient upkeep. Further, a tender for the project management consultancy for road construction work under IDA’s Scheme TPS-04 was approved, with the lowest bidder selected for the job. This road construction is expected to improve connectivity and enhance urban mobility across the city.
Another important agenda item was the review of a request from the Krishi Upaj Mandi Samiti for land allocation to establish an Agromart on the Super Corridor. The board decided that land allocation would be contingent on receiving approval from the state government. The IDA’s decision to focus on a mix of transportation, environmental, business, and tourism infrastructure projects reflects a forward-thinking vision for the city. By prioritising both economic development and environmental sustainability, Indore is taking steps to position itself as a model city for growth in Madhya Pradesh. The elevated corridor project, in particular, will help reduce traffic congestion in the city’s busiest areas, easing the daily commute for thousands of residents. In addition to transport and infrastructure improvements, the creation of green spaces and the development of innovation hubs like the Startup Park demonstrate a well-rounded approach to urban growth.
