Indore Development Authority Plans Elevated Corridor & Flyovers to Improve City Infrastructure
The Indore Development Authority (IDA) has announced plans for an elevated corridor and flyovers at key locations across the city. These infrastructure upgrades are part of a broader initiative to modernise the city and meet the demands of its rapidly expanding population.
During a recent meeting of the IDA board of directors, chaired by Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh, it was decided that the city would see the construction of an elevated corridor from Malwa Mill Square to Bhamori, near the Wow Hotel. This elevated corridor will help alleviate traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest areas, providing smoother connectivity and reducing delays for commuters. Additionally, the board approved the construction of two flyovers at Rasoma Square and Robot Square, two crucial intersections in Indore that often experience heavy traffic flow. These flyovers are expected to streamline traffic, particularly during peak hours, making it easier for residents and visitors to navigate the city efficiently. The IDA has also approved the appointment of a consultant to conduct feasibility studies and prepare detailed project reports (DPR) for both the elevated corridor and the flyovers. These studies are crucial to ensure that the projects are implemented in the most efficient and effective way, minimising disruptions during construction while delivering long-term benefits to the city’s infrastructure.
Alongside these projects, the IDA is planning the development of an urban forest in Scheme Number 97, a proposal for which will also be handled by a consultant from the IDA’s panel of architects. This green space is expected to provide a much-needed environmental and recreational resource for the city’s residents. Beyond traffic solutions, the IDA has also reviewed several other initiatives aimed at strengthening the city’s infrastructure. One notable proposal is the construction of a Startup Park in Scheme Number 151 on the Super Corridor. This park will be developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, offering space for emerging businesses and fostering economic growth in the region. In addition, plans for a convention centre on a 17-hectare plot in Scheme Number 172 are also under consideration. This facility will serve as a venue for business events, conferences, and exhibitions, further positioning Indore as a key player in India’s economic landscape.
The IDA has also made progress on plans for public amenities. The board approved the appointment of a transaction advisor for the maintenance and operation of the Senior Citizen Building in Scheme Number 134 and the Inter-State Bus Terminals in Schemes Number 139 and 169-A. The advisor will provide guidance on maximising revenue and ensuring the smooth operation of these important facilities. Further, the IDA has earmarked around 2000 square metres of land for an Agromart and another 5000 square metres for an office of a government gas agency, contributing to the city’s commercial infrastructure. Indore is undergoing a significant transformation, and these latest decisions from the IDA are key steps in ensuring that the city can meet the demands of its growing population and economy. With better transportation infrastructure, green spaces, and modern facilities like the Startup Park and convention centre, Indore is poised to become one of India’s most dynamic and well-connected cities. As the IDA moves forward with these plans, it’s clear that the city’s development will have a lasting impact on its residents, businesses, and visitors, improving quality of life and ensuring that Indore remains a vibrant hub for economic and social growth.
