Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has taken significant strides towards its goal of becoming a net-zero-emission airport by 2030, with a remarkable reduction in electricity consumption per passenger.

According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the airport has successfully decreased its electricity consumption by 57%, bringing it down to 2.21 kWh per passenger in 2023. This achievement underscores IGIA’s commitment to environmental sustainability and aligns with its broader objective of reducing carbon emissions. The reduction in electricity usage per passenger is attributed to the implementation of various green initiatives aimed at optimizing energy consumption.

DIAL’s energy-saving measures include the integration of green building practices, utilization of energy-efficient infrastructure, and efforts to optimize consumption through state-of-the-art automation in complex airport systems. These measures encompass areas such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), baggage handling systems, information technology, and airside ground lighting.
