Indore and Rewa will be connected by a new direct daily flight from 22 December 2025, marking a significant expansion of regional air connectivity within Madhya Pradesh. The service, announced by the airline operator, positions Rewa more prominently on India’s aviation map and supports the ongoing push to strengthen transport links between emerging Tier-II and Tier-III cities.
The flight will be operated using a turboprop aircraft, a choice that industry observers note is often more fuel-efficient on short routes and better aligned with low-emission regional mobility goals. According to airline officials, the new route also makes the carrier the first to offer a direct connection between the two cities, eliminating the time-consuming road travel currently relied upon by commuters, business travellers, and government personnel. Rewa becomes the sixth city in Madhya Pradesh to be integrated into the airline’s network after Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, and Khajuraho. Aviation analysts said the expansion reflects the growing demand for intra-state travel as smaller cities strengthen their economic and administrative roles. They added that such routes are essential for future-ready mobility systems that improve access to healthcare, education, tourism, and state-level commerce.
The new service is expected to provide travellers from Rewa smoother onward connections to major metros such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata. Urban mobility experts said this type of tier-linked network planning is crucial for reducing regional isolation and ensuring that smaller urban centres are not left behind in India’s transport modernisation journey. Rewa, located within the Vindhya region, has long been recognised for its cultural and ecological attractions, including its waterfalls, forts, heritage structures, and its global association with the rare White Tiger lineage. Tourism operators in the region believe the new air link may significantly improve domestic tourist footfall, especially during peak holiday seasons. They also expect more interest from travellers exploring lesser-known destinations aligned with eco-conscious tourism.
For Indore, the new connection strengthens the city’s position as a commercial and transport hub for central India. Urban planners highlighted that improved regional accessibility also helps promote balanced urban growth, reducing pressure on major metros and supporting more equitable development across the state. Officials from the aviation industry emphasised that expanding intra-state air services supports India’s broader ambitions of democratising air travel, particularly under schemes that focus on last-mile connectivity. They noted that such links can also complement sustainable city planning by reducing dependency on long road journeys that typically contribute to higher emissions.
As India continues to invest in cleaner, more efficient, and inclusive transport systems, regional aviation will play an important role in bridging geographic distances and supporting resilient, people-centric growth across states like Madhya Pradesh.
