IndiGo Goa Lucknow Flight Faces Mid Air Turbulence, Lands Safely
A Lucknow-bound IndiGo flight from North Goa experienced mid-air turbulence on Monday, 16 June, owing to active monsoon conditions affecting western India. The flight, designated 6E 6811, encountered unstable atmospheric conditions shortly after take-off but landed safely in Lucknow later that day. The aircraft encountered momentary turbulence as it flew through an area impacted by widespread monsoon activity.
IndiGo confirmed that its cockpit and cabin crew followed all standard operating procedures and safety protocols during the episode. “IndiGo flight 6E 6811 from North Goa to Lucknow on June 16 experienced turbulence momentarily due to prevailing active monsoon weather conditions in western India. The crew, trained for such eventualities, followed established protocols to ensure customer safety,” the airline said in a statement.
While the airline refrained from providing detailed information about the nature of the turbulence or the altitude at which it occurred, it assured that the safety of passengers and crew was not compromised at any point during the flight. No injuries or technical issues were reported, and the flight was not diverted. Turbulence, especially during the monsoon season, is not uncommon in Indian airspace, particularly along western coastal regions and central India.
Meteorological disturbances, including sudden wind shifts, low-pressure systems, and towering cumulonimbus clouds, can lead to moderate to severe air turbulence. Airlines operating in and out of monsoon-affected zones are required to conduct additional weather briefings and ensure preparedness for atmospheric instability. IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, reiterated that its pilots undergo regular training to handle adverse weather conditions.
While this particular incident ended without any mishaps, it has drawn attention to the broader issue of increasing turbulence incidents during India’s increasingly volatile monsoon seasons. Meteorological experts have observed a rise in severe and unpredictable weather patterns due to climate change, which directly affects aviation safety.
As India enters peak monsoon, aviation safety authorities are urging airlines to maintain heightened vigilance and improve communication with meteorological agencies. Meanwhile, passengers are advised to remain seated and buckled up during flights, especially when traveling through regions affected by seasonal weather changes.
