IndiGo Begins Daily Nonstop Flights Linking Mumbai And London On Dreamliner

IndiGo has officially entered the long-haul travel segment with the launch of its first-ever daily non-stop flight connecting Mumbai and London Heathrow. Operated on the advanced Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the service marks a major milestone for India’s largest carrier by market share, reflecting its growing ambitions to become a global airline with sustainable and affordable international connectivity.

The inaugural flight took off from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Sunday afternoon, signalling IndiGo’s entry into one of the most competitive international air corridors. The daily service—Flight 6E-0001—departs Mumbai at 2:25 p.m. and lands at London Heathrow at 7:20 p.m. local time. The return flight, 6E-0002, leaves London at 9:30 p.m. and arrives in Mumbai at 11:45 a.m. the following day, offering business and leisure travellers a reliable, non-stop option between the two major financial hubs. The airline’s long-haul Dreamliner fleet introduces a dual-class cabin—Economy and IndiGoStretch—designed to offer enhanced comfort, wider legroom, and premium onboard services. Passengers can enjoy curated entertainment on seatback screens, complimentary hot meals, and beverages, including alcoholic options on longer routes.

Officials from IndiGo said that the Mumbai–London service is part of a broader internationalisation strategy aimed at strengthening India’s global aviation footprint. With this route, IndiGo passengers can now access London and connect seamlessly to over 90 domestic and international destinations through the airline’s codeshare network. The move also complements India’s growing aviation infrastructure and aligns with government initiatives to position the country as a global aviation hub. According to aviation analysts, IndiGo’s London route represents a defining shift in the airline’s business model—from a low-cost carrier to a full-service global operator. The Boeing Dreamliner, known for its fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions, also aligns with the airline’s sustainability goals and the larger national vision of greener aviation.

Officials added that this new long-haul service is part of IndiGo’s ongoing expansion into Europe, following recent launches of routes to Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and Manchester. By increasing direct connectivity between India and major European cities, IndiGo aims to meet rising travel demand, boost business exchange, and strengthen cultural links. Industry experts have welcomed the move as a positive step for Mumbai’s international connectivity. With the new service, the city will see enhanced global access that supports trade, tourism, and investment while easing congestion on existing routes operated by full-service carriers.

As the aviation industry recovers from the pandemic slowdown, IndiGo’s entry into transcontinental routes underscores the growing demand for efficient, non-stop air travel from India’s key metros. For passengers, this new flight offers convenience and comfort, while for the airline, it represents a bold stride towards long-haul leadership.
