IndiGo and Akasa Air, two of India’s leading airlines, have issued a crucial travel advisory for passengers flying to and from Mumbai Airport in view of the heavy rains and waterlogging reported across several parts of the city. According to airline officials, the advisory was issued after flight schedules at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were affected due to reduced visibility, delays in ground handling operations, and air traffic congestion.
Both carriers have urged passengers to stay updated on flight status through official websites, mobile applications, and customer care centres before leaving for the airport. IndiGo stated that passengers may face possible delays due to operational challenges arising from the severe rains, while Akasa Air highlighted the importance of allowing additional travel time for airport transfers as traffic congestion has worsened across Mumbai. Passengers are also advised to carry necessary essentials, keep buffer travel time, and avoid last-minute airport rush.
The airlines have assured that they are working closely with airport authorities and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to minimize disruptions and provide timely information. While cancellations remain limited, weather-induced delays are expected to continue until rainfall intensity reduces. Mumbai Airport, one of the busiest in India, handles over 900 daily flights, and any weather-related disruptions create a cascading effect across domestic and international routes. Experts pointed out that July and August typically witness the heaviest rainfall, often leading to diversions and extended waiting times for passengers.
Authorities have also requested travellers to use digital boarding passes and baggage drop facilities to ease congestion at airport counters. Passengers on international connections have been particularly urged to check with their airlines for possible schedule changes. While the city is used to the monsoon’s challenges, the intensity of rainfall this season has been unusually high. The advisory from IndiGo and Akasa Air comes at a critical time, as the aviation sector tries to balance safety with operational efficiency during extreme weather.
For now, passengers are advised to remain alert, plan ahead, and stay connected with airlines for real-time updates to ensure smoother travel during Mumbai’s ongoing monsoon turbulence.
