Muniguda Railway Station in Odisha is undergoing a significant transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a flagship initiative by Indian Railways aimed at modernising and redeveloping key railway stations across the country.
This comprehensive redevelopment is part of a broader effort to enhance regional connectivity, promote sustainable infrastructure, and improve passenger amenities. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, launched in 2023, focuses on upgrading 1,275 railway stations nationwide. The initiative aims to create future-ready transport hubs that align with global standards of efficiency, sustainability, and passenger comfort. Under this scheme, Muniguda Railway Station has been earmarked for a major overhaul, with an estimated investment of ₹20.16 crore. The project encompasses a wide range of upgrades designed to enhance the travel experience for passengers and contribute to the region’s economic development.
Key features of the redevelopment include the construction of a new, wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) to facilitate smoother movement across platforms, especially for differently-abled individuals, senior citizens, and families with children. The station building’s front façade is being revamped to provide a more modern and welcoming appearance. Platforms are being raised and resurfaced, with new shelters installed to provide better protection from the elements. Additionally, coach indication boards and standard signage are being installed to improve navigation within the station. Accessibility is a key focus of the redevelopment, with provisions for Divyangjan-friendly facilities, including ramps, lifts, and modernised toilets. A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) with an overhead tank and pipeline connections is also being installed to ensure efficient waste management and water conservation. The integration of solar energy solutions and sustainable waste management practices aligns with the scheme’s emphasis on eco-friendly infrastructure.
Passenger amenities are being significantly upgraded, with the provision of high-speed Wi-Fi, digital information boards, and improved food and beverage services. State-of-the-art security systems are being implemented to enhance safety, and redesigned circulating areas with better drop-off/pick-up lanes, enhanced parking, and improved access roads are being developed to streamline station operations. The redevelopment of Muniguda Railway Station is expected to catalyse economic and cultural development in the region. By improving infrastructure and connectivity, the project aims to boost tourism, support regional trade, and promote inclusive growth. Indian Railways has committed to the timely and phased execution of the project, ensuring minimal disruption to passengers while steadily progressing toward a green, inclusive, and future-ready railway ecosystem.
This initiative reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to modernising the country’s railway infrastructure and enhancing the passenger experience. As part of the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the redevelopment of Muniguda Railway Station underscores the importance of sustainable and inclusive development in shaping the future of India’s public transport system.
