Indian Railways is set to embark on a significant workforce expansion, planning over 50,000 appointments in the financial year 2025-26. This ambitious recruitment drive aims to bolster the operational efficiency and service delivery of the nation’s vital rail network, signalling a strategic commitment to strengthening public transport infrastructure. The Ministry of Railways has officially announced this extensive recruitment initiative, following a period where the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducted computer-based examinations for over 1.86 crore candidates across various notifications. With 55,197 vacancies already processed since November 2024, the focus now shifts to expediting appointments. The first quarter of the current financial year has already seen over 9,000 appointments issued, indicating a clear intent to address existing employee shortages and enhance the railway’s capacity to serve its vast passenger and freight demands.
A cornerstone of this recruitment drive is the emphasis on transparency and fairness. Indian Railways has implemented e-KYC-based Aadhaar authentication, achieving over 95 per cent success in verifying candidate identities.
