Indian Railways has announced the operation of special trains at discounted fares to provide alternative travel options for affected passengers. Both Central and Western Railways have mobilised additional services connecting key urban hubs, aiming to alleviate commuter stress while supporting the country’s transport infrastructure.
Western Railway has introduced four pairs of special services starting this Saturday. These trains will operate on routes including Mumbai Central–Bhiwani, Mumbai Central–Shakur Basti, Bandra Terminus–Durgapura, and Valsad–Bilaspur. Meanwhile, Central Railway has scheduled special trains between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Hazrat Nizamuddin, CSMT and Nagpur, Pune and Hazrat Nizamuddin, Pune and Bengaluru, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Lucknow, and LTT and Madgaon. Bookings for specific train numbers—09003, 09730, 09001, and 08244—have been staggered over the coming weekend at all PRS counters and via the IRCTC portal to ensure smooth access for passengers. Railway officials emphasised that the initiative aims to provide a reliable, safe, and affordable travel alternative while mitigating the ripple effects of delayed or cancelled flights.
“Special trains at special fares demonstrate Indian Railways’ commitment to passenger convenience and sustainable transport solutions during crises,” said an official from the Western Railway.
