Indian Railways has initiated special train services from Jammu and Udhampur to Delhi.
This move aims to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of passengers amid heightened vigilance across the nation. The special train services include Train No. 04612, departing from Jammu at 10:45 am, comprising 12 unreserved and 12 reserved coaches. Additionally, a 20-coach Vande Bharat rake is scheduled to depart from Udhampur at 12:45 pm, running via Jammu and Pathankot, thereby connecting the northern districts to the national capital. Another 22-coach fully reserved LHB special train is planned to depart from Jammu around 7:00 pm on Friday evening.
These measures come in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, where 26 civilians were killed by militants in the Baisaran Valley, Anantnag district. The attack has significantly impacted tourism and raised concerns over the safety of travelers in the region. In response to these events, security has been intensified across various railway stations. For instance, in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district, comprehensive inspections were conducted at the local railway station. The operation involved the GRP, RPF, town police, and a dog squad, thoroughly checking platforms, train coaches, and the parcel office. Railway DSP Muralidhar emphasized that these checks were precautionary measures following the Pahalgam attack, aiming to bolster security and reassure the public.
Furthermore, the Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, R R Swain, has called for strengthening access control at various railway stations to prevent the transportation of weapons, explosives, or narcotics. This directive underscores the commitment to enhancing the preventive and detective capabilities of railway police forces in the region . These initiatives reflect Indian Railways’ proactive approach to ensuring passenger safety and maintaining public confidence in the railway system. By enhancing connectivity and security measures, Indian Railways aims to provide a safe and reliable mode of transportation for travelers during these challenging times.
