Indian Railways Books Over Nine Thousand Tickets Through IRCTC And RailOne Apps

Indian Railways’ newly introduced Round Trip Package has registered over 9,000 bookings since its launch on August 14, reflecting strong passenger interest ahead of the festive season. Designed to provide discounted return fares, the scheme allows travellers to book both onward and return journeys under a single package, offering convenience and cost savings. The initiative is available through the official IRCTC portal and the RailOne mobile application.

Railway officials emphasise that the Round Trip Package is aimed at facilitating smoother travel for passengers heading to hometowns during major festivals such as Diwali and Chhath. By simplifying ticket bookings and offering financial incentives, the scheme seeks to reduce last-minute rush, promote timely travel, and enhance overall passenger comfort. “The introduction of the Round Trip Package is aligned with Indian Railways’ broader commitment to improving passenger experience and encouraging planned travel,” stated an official from the railway’s commercial department. The official added that early bookings under the scheme help optimise train operations, enabling better management of occupancy and onboard services.

Passengers have responded positively, citing the convenience of securing both legs of a journey in a single transaction. The scheme also allows passengers to plan itineraries more effectively, particularly for families and groups travelling together. Experts note that such packages are increasingly important in boosting railway patronage while easing pressure on ticketing systems during peak travel periods. Furthermore, the scheme aligns with the Railways’ broader strategy to promote digital bookings and reduce dependence on physical ticket counters. With over 90 per cent of bookings now conducted online, initiatives like the Round Trip Package contribute to a more sustainable, paperless ticketing ecosystem. Officials highlight that this move not only reduces operational inefficiencies but also supports the Railways’ zero-net-carbon goals by promoting eco-friendly travel practices.

Railway experts predict that the scheme’s popularity will continue to rise, particularly during festive seasons, when passenger volumes typically surge. The package is expected to play a significant role in improving travel experiences across long-distance routes, while also generating additional revenue for operational improvements. The Railways has urged passengers to make use of the official platforms to avoid fraudulent bookings and emphasised that all tickets booked under the Round Trip Package are fully integrated with existing digital and physical ticketing infrastructure. Officials continue to monitor booking trends and explore opportunities to expand similar packages in other regions, supporting inclusive and equitable travel options.

By streamlining the ticketing process, providing financial incentives, and encouraging early planning, the Round Trip Package scheme reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to combining passenger convenience with operational efficiency and sustainable travel practices.
