India secures Rs10000 Cr FDI in maritime sector from Interorient and Danship the biggest since 2005 liberalisation

In India’s maritime infrastructure, Interorient Navigation Co Ltd (Cyprus) and Danship & Partners Ltd (Denmark) have announced a ₹10,000 crore Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into India’s shipping industry — the largest such investment since the sector’s liberalisation in 2005. The FDI was formalised shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Cyprus on June 15, 2025, where maritime collaboration featured prominently in talks with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides. This development boosts bilateral trade ties and reflects the growing strategic alignment between the two nations under the Indo-Cyprus Maritime Cooperation Framework.

The investment supports key Indian maritime programs such as Maritime India Vision 2030, Sagarmala, and the long-term Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, aiming to modernise India’s port infrastructure and logistics capacity. All vessels under this initiative will be registered under the Indian flag — increasing India’s registered tonnage and retaining freight earnings domestically. The investment will also generate new jobs for Indian seafarers, maritime cadets, and industry professionals, strengthening economic resilience and shipping self-reliance.

Danship & Partners, led by Indian maritime expert Capt. Danniel Gautam Chopra, brings a Scandinavian legacy in shipbroking and offshore operations. Interorient Navigation, led by Cyprus-based Themis Papadopoulas, operates a modern fleet of tankers and dry bulk carriers and is known for its commitment to sustainability and digital transformation.

This partnership not only fortifies India’s maritime future but also reinforces its position in the global shipping economy.
