India Ramps Up Solar, EV Plans With Strong Electrical Safety Focus

During this year’s Electrical Safety Day, experts emphasised that as the country embraces rooftop solar, EV infrastructure, and digital grids, safety must evolve in parallel. The event brought together technicians, officials, and energy users to foster a proactive safety culture nationwide.
As India advances towards clean energy targets, integrating safety into system design and public use becomes crucial. The shift towards rooftop solar, electric mobility, and decentralised battery systems introduces complex technologies that require awareness and preparedness. Experts highlighted that every connection—from grid to socket—must be treated with caution. The transition is not just technical but also cultural, requiring nationwide sensitisation on hazards and protocols in homes, industries, and public spaces.
Sector representatives agreed that while electricity empowers every part of modern life, it also poses hidden risks if poorly handled. With millions of new users entering smart grids and using battery-based tools, ensuring safety awareness at the grassroots level is essential. Engineers, inspectors, residential associations, and equipment manufacturers were urged to adopt accountability practices, preventive maintenance, and real-time monitoring to minimise fire hazards and electrocution incidents.
More than 300 participants from across the energy value chain attended the Electrical Safety Day event, with many more joining virtually. Discussions underscored the need for reliable safety infrastructure that matches India’s growing clean energy ambitions. Authorities pointed out that decentralised power systems and smart meters must be paired with safety education and regulation enforcement to avoid system overload, installation errors, and operational faults in new-age power systems.
Speakers emphasised that safety must become a mindset rather than a mere protocol. Institutions were urged to instil electrical safety principles in training modules and public campaigns. Innovations like digital fault detection and AI-enabled energy monitoring are being promoted as part of the safety arsenal.
