India IndiGo Takes Off from Hindon with Direct Flights to 9 Indian Cities

India’s aviation landscape sees a significant enhancement as IndiGo commences commercial flight operations from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, strategically strengthening its offerings from the National Capital Region (NCR). Starting today, IndiGo, a prominent Indian airline, will provide direct flights connecting Hindon to nine major Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Goa, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, and Varanasi. This expansion marks Hindon as the airline’s second operational base in the NCR after Delhi, offering a convenient and closer travel alternative for millions residing in Ghaziabad, Noida, East and Central Delhi, and parts of Western Uttar Pradesh.

The launch event was graced by the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who lauded the development as a success of the UDAN scheme aimed at enhancing regional connectivity. He emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening aviation infrastructure across India to seamlessly connect smaller towns with growing cities and metros. IndiGo’s CEO, Pieter Elbers, expressed delight at commencing operations from Hindon, highlighting the airline’s aim to offer enhanced point-to-point travel with nearly 70 weekly departures from the airport. This move provides customers the convenience of flying from an airport closer to their homes, reducing travel time to Delhi’s main airport.

The new flight schedule offers diverse connectivity options, catering to various travel needs, whether for business trips to Bengaluru, spiritual journeys to Varanasi, or leisure escapes to Goa. The addition of IndiGo’s services means Hindon Airport now operates flights to 22 routes, expanding choices for travelers. The airport, redeveloped under the UDAN scheme, has seen a significant surge in annual passenger traffic, from 8,000 in 2019 to over 80,000 currently. This growth underscores the increasing demand for regional air travel and the airport’s crucial role in decongesting Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

India’s commitment to enhancing regional air accessibility is evident in this development, which is expected to further stimulate local economic growth, foster tourism, and provide greater convenience for residents. This initiative is a testament to the ongoing efforts to bolster the nation’s aviation sector, ensuring more widespread and efficient air travel options for citizens across the country and solidifying Hindon’s position as a vital regional air gateway.
