India Distributes 25 Crore Soil Health Cards Expands Agri Credit Access Through Kisan Cards
India has distributed over 25 crore Soil Health Cards to promote balanced fertiliser use and sustainable farming practices across the country. In parallel, the government is expanding credit accessibility through the Kisan Credit Card scheme, allowing more farmers to secure timely loans for agricultural activities.
Officials highlighted that agriculture remains central to India’s development agenda. The government has integrated 1,400 agricultural mandis with the e-NAM platform, helping farmers get real-time market data and better price discovery. Subsidised fertilisers continue to be made available, with uninterrupted supply even during the pandemic, easing pressure on farming costs.
Despite global challenges and declining export trends, India’s agricultural exports — including crops, fisheries, and animal husbandry products — have touched ₹4 lakh crore, showcasing sectoral resilience. New trade agreements with countries such as Australia, the UAE, the UK, and EFTA nations have helped Indian farm products reach wider markets.
Authorities are also focusing on reforms such as improving seed quality, boosting natural and organic farming, and scaling irrigation infrastructure like drip systems. Simultaneously, India is promoting digital agriculture with the help of AI, geospatial tools, weather forecasting systems, and precision farming techniques. These tools aim to support cooperatives and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).
Value addition through food processing, branding, and packaging is being prioritized to increase farmer incomes. Investments in warehousing and cold storage infrastructure are underway, strengthening the agricultural supply chain.
India’s leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to building a secure and self-reliant agricultural economy as a pillar of its Viksit Bharat (Developed India) vision.
