In a significant collaboration, India and Israel are joining forces to establish the ‘India-Israel Centre of Water Technology’ at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-Madras). The primary objective of this centre is to customise Israel’s advanced water technologies to meet specific requirements of India while promoting sustainable management solutions for the country’s water sector.
Lior Asaf, Water Attaché at the Embassy of Israel, emphasised the importance of the partnership with IIT-Madras and the Central government’s Amrut initiative, stating, “We will jointly work for better management of water resources in India, introducing new state-of-the-art Israeli technology and know-how in a sustainable manner.”
This collaboration holds immense value for India’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MHUA) and its Amrut mission, as the Centre will contribute towards achieving their overall targets.
Moreover, the Center will enhance cooperation by building the capacity of Indian water professionals at all levels and demonstrating projects that utilise the latest technologies. The governments of India and Israel intend to identify specific projects in integrated water resources management, urban water supply, non-revenue water, water and sewage recycling, water harvesting, etc.
