Inaugural Train for Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 to Depart from Chennai
The highly anticipated inaugural train for the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 will depart from Chennai on Thursday, marking the beginning of a special journey for students, teachers, and writers. Flagged off by Tamil Nadu Governor Thiru RN Ravi, the first train will leave Dr MGR Central Railway Station, carrying participants of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam to Varanasi, the cultural and spiritual heart of India.
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam is a unique cultural and educational confluence designed to celebrate the rich cultural ties between the Tamil and Hindi-speaking regions of India. This year marks the third edition of the event, which is scheduled to take place from February 15 to 24, 2025. Organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with several other ministries and the Uttar Pradesh Government, the event promises to be a vibrant showcase of academic, cultural, and spiritual exchanges.
The train journey will serve as a prelude to an eight-day tour that will include four days of travel and four days spent immersing in the rich history of key locations. Upon arriving in Varanasi, the participants will engage in various academic and cultural programmes at Namo Ghat. Following this, they will visit Prayagraj, where they will have the opportunity to bathe at the holy Sangam during the Maha Kumbh, a deeply spiritual experience. The group will also visit the sacred Akshayavat and Hanuman Temple, along with other iconic sites in the city. The journey will continue with a visit to Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, where the group will explore the Ram Temple, Kanak Bhavan, and the ghats that line the city. After a fulfilling spiritual and cultural experience in these historical locations, the participants will return to Varanasi before finally making their way back to Tamil Nadu.
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 is being implemented by two prestigious institutions: IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The programme aims to strengthen the bond between the two states by fostering cross-cultural dialogue and understanding. IIT Madras Director, Prof Kamakoti, highlighted the importance of this event as a platform for academic and cultural collaboration, further cementing the significance of the Tamil-Hindi cultural connection. For many participants, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam is more than just a cultural exchange; it’s a journey of learning and personal growth. Students and teachers alike have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya, while also deepening their understanding of India’s rich spiritual heritage.
