In Chennai Commuters Demand Road Repair in MGR Nagar to Alleviate Traffic Woes

Despite persistent appeals from commuters, the road has languished in disrepair for over two months, exacerbating traffic congestion and safety hazards in the area. The junction in question serves as a pivotal thoroughfare, witnessing heavy vehicular movement throughout the day, leading to frequent traffic snarls even during off-peak hours. Despite numerous grievances lodged with zonal authorities, the lack of action to rectify the road’s condition has left residents disillusioned and frustrated.

Notably, recent drainage works conducted by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) along the main road have further exacerbated the road’s dilapidated state. Following the completion of these works, the failure to restore the road to a passable condition has only compounded commuters’ woes, with loose stones making traversing the road a challenging endeavour. Expressing their dismay over the prolonged neglect of the road’s maintenance, residents have emphasised the urgent need for the Corporation to initiate patchwork or undertake comprehensive re-laying efforts to restore the road to a safe and usable condition. The current state of the road not only poses risks to commuters but also hampers the smooth flow of traffic, hindering daily mobility and contributing to overall urban congestion.

Efforts to engage with local authorities and municipal officials have thus far yielded minimal results, prompting residents to escalate their pleas for swift action. With commuter safety and convenience at stake, stakeholders emphasise the imperative of prioritising infrastructure upkeep and investing in sustainable solutions to address the pressing needs of urban mobility and transportation infrastructure. As residents await a proactive response from the authorities, the call for immediate remediation of the damaged road in MGR Nagar underscores the significance of citizen engagement in shaping urban development priorities and fostering accountable governance in Chennai’s evolving urban landscape.
