Panaji: The final stretch of the road from the Caculo Mall junction to the bridge near the Tonca sewage treatment plant has been officially opened to the public. This newly constructed 350-metre road is set to significantly enhance traffic flow and connectivity in the area, reducing congestion and contributing to the overall modernisation of Panaji.
However, the road project is not entirely complete. The remaining sewerage work along a 150-metre section from Taad Maad to the sewage plant requires deep excavation. This will be undertaken at a later date, contingent upon favourable site conditions. The recently constructed drain adjacent to the Taad Maad religious structure experienced a partial collapse following heavy rains. Despite this setback, the road was made functional to alleviate traffic issues and improve commuter convenience. IPSCDL, the agency overseeing the project, expressed gratitude to the residents of St Inez and the surrounding areas for their patience during the construction period. The agency acknowledged the support of the local community, which was crucial in overcoming the challenges faced during the execution of the project. Over the past six to eight months, contractors encountered various obstacles while laying the sewerage line, primarily due to the high water table, which caused significant delays. These challenges were addressed through concerted efforts and careful planning to ensure the project’s completion.
The newly opened road is expected to provide smoother commutes, benefiting both residents and visitors. This infrastructure improvement is part of a broader initiative to modernise the city’s road network, aiming to support Panaji’s growth and development. The opening of this road marks a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure development. It underscores the commitment of the local authorities to enhance urban mobility and ensure the well-being of its citizens. The project not only improves daily commutes but also lays the groundwork for future urban development projects in Panaji. Residents are advised to stay informed about any further developments related to the completion of the remaining sewerage work and any potential disruptions it may cause. Meanwhile, the current accessibility is a welcome improvement, promising a better quality of life for the local community.
