A 20-km public endurance run along a newly completed mountain road will formally open a key segment of the Hill Highway in Kerala’s high ranges this Sunday, signalling a major connectivity upgrade for Idukki. The event, led by a nationally known endurance athlete, precedes the official launch of the upgraded corridor and underscores the state’s strategy of blending infrastructure rollout with tourism and community participation.
The run will traverse the Kuttikkanam–Chappath stretch, part of the broader 1,332-km Hill Highway network designed to link elevated and interior regions across 13 districts. The project is being financed with support from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board, which has backed large-scale road, education and health infrastructure across the state.Officials said participants have been scheduled to assemble early morning at a local college ground, with hydration and safety arrangements in place before the flag-off. The featured stretch also forms part of the refurbished Peermade–Devikulam route.
