Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has secured the fourth position among India’s busiest airports for the financial year (FY) 2023-24.
Recent data released by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) indicates that RGIA facilitated the movement of 25 million passengers, encompassing both international and domestic travellers, from April 2023 to March 2024. This figure marks a notable increase from the 20.9 million passengers recorded in the preceding fiscal year. Leading the pack among Indian airports, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport claimed the top spot with 73 million passengers, followed closely by Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with 52 million passengers and Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport with 37 million passengers. Of the 25 million passengers served by RGIA, 20.8 million were domestic travellers, while 4.2 million were international passengers. Additionally, RGIA logged 1.76 lakh aircraft movements during FY 2023-24, indicating an 11% uptick from the previous year. Among these movements, 1.48 lakh were domestic flights, while 27,995 were international.
In comparison, Begumpet Airport saw a notable increase in passenger traffic and aircraft movements. The airport accommodated 8,064 international and domestic passengers during FY 2023-24, a significant rise from the 1,938 passengers recorded in the previous fiscal year. Moreover, the airport witnessed 2,342 international and domestic aircraft movements, up from 1,228 movements in the preceding financial year. The data underscores Hyderabad’s growing prominence as a key aviation hub, with RGIA playing a pivotal role in facilitating both domestic and international air travel.
