Hyderabad’s Old City Metro Land Deal to Last Eight Months

Hyderabad: The acquisition of land for the Old City Metro extension, covering the 7.5 km route from MGBS to Chandrayangutta, is projected to span approximately eight months. This timeline is in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Land Acquisition Act. The expansion is crucial as the road needs to be widened to 100 feet to align with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) master plan, with Metro station areas extending to 120 feet. The project will impact around 1,200 properties.

To date, notifications have been issued for 400 properties, with information published in Telugu, English, and Urdu newspapers. The land acquisition process will affect varying portions of each property—between 20 to 25 feet from Darulshifa to Shalibanda, and approximately 10 feet from Shalibanda to Chandrayangutta. The process involves extensive surveys, including LiDAR drone technology and physical inspections, to evaluate the structural integrity of the affected properties. Special care is being taken to protect 103 religious and sensitive structures along the route, as highlighted in an official press release.

Property owners whose properties are impacted by the acquisition are encouraged to seek clarifications and file any objections they might have. The authorities are committed to addressing concerns and ensuring a fair process as the project progresses. The Old City Metro extension is part of a broader effort to enhance public transportation infrastructure in Hyderabad. The planned Metro extension aims to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the historic Old City area, marking a significant step in the city’s urban development strategy.
