Hyderabad’s Infrastructure Boost Rs6450 Crore Funded

The state government has earmarked a substantial Rs6,450 crore for key infrastructure projects, addressing the financial shortfall faced by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). This allocation comes as a response to GHMC’s request for additional financial assistance to bolster its infrastructure capabilities.

The GHMC, which had previously received Rs182.44 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal year, has been granted Rs3,065 crore for the 2024-25 fiscal period. This substantial increase follows GHMC’s earlier appeal for an additional Rs3,492 crore to support its expansive urban development plans. The bulk of this funding, Rs2,654 crore, is allocated under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITY) initiative. The H-CITY project is designed to consolidate and enhance various infrastructure projects, including the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP), and the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP). This funding is expected to expedite the completion of pending flyovers and other critical urban infrastructure works.

In addition, the second phase of the SNDP will see the commencement of 35 new works with an estimated investment of Rs582.42 crore. These initiatives are crucial for the city’s continued urban development and are set to address long-standing infrastructure challenges. Parallel to this, the HMWSSB has been allocated Rs3,385 crore to significantly upgrade the city’s water supply and sewerage systems. This funding includes Rs2,450 crore dedicated to loan repayments, development projects, and the Sunkishala intake project under the Krishna Drinking Water Supply scheme. An additional Rs300 crore will be used to cover costs related to the 20 KL free water supply scheme.

The remainder of the funds will be allocated for operational expenses including salaries, vehicle maintenance, and machinery upkeep. These financial injections signify a major commitment by the state government to enhance Hyderabad’s infrastructure and water management systems, paving the way for more efficient urban planning and improved quality of life for its residents.
