Hyderabad NH-44 Flyover Work Starts in June

Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has expedited the construction of the elevated corridor on National Highway 44 (NH-44), stretching from Paradise Junction to Dairy Farm Road in Secunderabad.

This initiative, under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion in one of the city’s most bustling corridors. The project, with an estimated budget of ₹652 crore, is set to commence by mid-June 2025 and is projected to be completed within 36 months. The corridor will span a total length of 5.40 km, featuring a 3.05 km elevated stretch and a 0.6 km underpass near the Begumpet Airport. This underpass, approved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), is designed to address the sharp turns near Tadbund Junction, which have been a frequent cause of accidents.

The corridor’s design includes six lanes with entry and exit ramps, aiming to streamline traffic flow and reduce travel time between Paradise Circle and Dairy Farm Road from the current 45-60 minutes to approximately 30 minutes. This is particularly significant given the daily traffic volume of over two lakh vehicles on this stretch. Land acquisition processes are progressing swiftly, with the transfer of Defence land at an advanced stage and acquisitions from civilian and government agencies in the Secunderabad Cantonment area underway. Approximately 251 private structures are expected to be affected along NH-44 as part of the corridor’s development.

In line with sustainable development goals, the project also involves the translocation of over 4,000 trees to facilitate construction. This environmental consideration underscores the city’s commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure development. The elevated corridor is anticipated to significantly improve connectivity not only within Secunderabad but also to northern Telangana towns such as West Marredpally, Karkhana, Tirumulgherry, Bolarum, Alwal, Hakimpet, and Thumkunta. By enhancing access to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and other major highways, the project is poised to bolster economic activity and urban development in the region.

As Hyderabad continues to evolve into a more connected and sustainable metropolis, the NH-44 elevated corridor stands as a testament to the city’s proactive approach to addressing urban transportation challenges through strategic planning and execution.
