Hyderabad’s ambitious Neopolis project in Kokapet is poised to redefine urban living, embarking on a substantial investment of Rs 227.22 crore to fortify its water and sewage infrastructure.
This strategic commitment by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), with funding sanctioned by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), is a crucial step towards establishing Neopolis as a benchmark for focused urban development and sustainable growth. This extensive infrastructure enhancement signals a proactive approach towards creating a truly zero-net carbon, eco-friendly, and equitable city, where modern living is seamlessly integrated with responsible resource management and environmental stewardship.
The planned infrastructure for this futuristic vertical city is comprehensive, addressing both water supply and wastewater management with cutting-edge solutions. A cornerstone of this development is the establishment of a 45 Million Litres per Day (MLD) sewage treatment plant (STP), a critical component for ensuring that wastewater is treated to high standards before discharge or reuse, thereby protecting local ecosystems and promoting a circular water economy. Beyond the STP, the project includes the construction of two 2.5 ML Elevated Level Service Reservoirs (ELSRs) and a 9 ML Ground Level Storage Reservoir (GLSR), essential for maintaining consistent water pressure and storage capacity for the burgeoning population of Neopolis.
The blueprint also encompasses vital operational and logistical components, such as a dedicated pumphouse, a robust 132/6.6 KV electrical substation to ensure uninterrupted power supply, a chlorination room for water purification, and an office building complemented by staff quarters to facilitate efficient management and operations. A significant aspect of this project is the commitment to long-term sustainability: the newly constructed STP will be operated and maintained for a period of 15 years, ensuring its continued efficiency and environmental benefits over the long run. Furthermore, the initiative involves the laying of extensive pipelines, including 1800 mm and 1500 mm diameter MS pipelines, designed for both gravity flow and pumping mains, ensuring a resilient and high-capacity network for water and sewage transportation.
The HMWSSB has already initiated the tendering process, inviting bids from qualified agencies to undertake the execution of this complex project. A key requirement for the selected agency will be the meticulous conduct of detailed surveys and the submission of comprehensive designs for approval prior to the commencement of any construction activities.
