The Telangana government has finalised the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the Phase II B corridors of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
These corridors, spanning a total of 86.1 kilometres, aim to connect key areas including Medchal, Shameerpet, and the Future City, with an estimated investment of ₹19,579 crore. The finalisation of these DPRs follows a directive from the Chief Minister of Telangana to prepare and submit detailed plans for these corridors. The corridors are designed to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and support the city’s growing infrastructure needs. The Medchal corridor, extending 24.5 kilometres, will be fully elevated and feature 18 stations, enhancing access to the northern suburbs of Hyderabad. The Shameerpet corridor, covering 22 kilometres, will include both elevated and underground sections, facilitating connections to educational and defence zones in North Hyderabad.
The Future City corridor, spanning 39.6 kilometres, will link the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to the Future City, passing through key areas such as Pedda Golconda and Raviryala ORR exits. These metro expansions are expected to alleviate traffic congestion, improve last-mile connectivity, and support the growing population and urban sprawl of Hyderabad. The project is also aligned with the state’s commitment to sustainable urban development, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote eco-friendly transportation options.
The Telangana government has engaged in a consultative approach with landowners to facilitate land acquisition for the project, offering enhanced compensation packages to address concerns and ensure smooth implementation. As the project progresses, it is anticipated to significantly transform the region’s infrastructure, providing residents with improved access to transportation and contributing to the overall development of Hyderabad.
