Hyderabad Launches Global City Plan With Focus On Infrastructure Reforms

Hyderabad is set to undergo a major urban transformation as the state government launches an ambitious plan to develop the Core Urban City Area into a global-standard city. Officials have been directed to prioritise critical services including education, healthcare, sanitation, transport, and public infrastructure to improve quality of life for all residents, particularly the underprivileged and middle-class communities.

The initiative comes amid rising migration to Greater Hyderabad from across Telangana and neighbouring states, driving the need for advanced urban planning and world-class infrastructure. A comprehensive blueprint has been prepared, detailing over 100 proposals across five major components to enhance livability, efficiency, and sustainability within the city.Education has been identified as a key focus area. Officials plan to modernise government schools, consolidating under-resourced institutions into single campuses, with upgraded facilities from nursery through higher classes. The government aims to provide nutritious meals and reliable transport to ease the financial burden on families while ensuring standardised learning environments across schools and colleges.

Healthcare improvements are set to include the establishment of special clinics providing immediate services for low-income residents. Sanitation measures are being strengthened to elevate Hyderabad’s status as a clean city, with strict accountability mechanisms and incentives for officials successfully implementing cleanliness initiatives.Urban mobility and traffic management are also under scrutiny. Authorities will conduct detailed traffic studies, implement advanced signal systems linked to central command centres, and introduce smart mobility solutions, including drone-assisted traffic monitoring. Infrastructure reforms will ensure that all government offices function from dedicated buildings, and renewable energy solutions, such as solar installations, are being fast-tracked for government institutions.

The plan further emphasises environmental sustainability, with initiatives to protect lakes, tanks, and drainage systems. Digital land databases and robotic cleaning systems for drains and manholes are being implemented to safeguard municipal assets and reduce urban flooding risks. The state government has called for multi-departmental coordination, aligning municipal, police, electricity, and water services to streamline urban governance and execution of citywide reforms. Officials are tasked with delivering measurable improvements within a clear timeframe, ensuring Hyderabad not only grows in size but evolves into a model for sustainable, equitable urban development. This initiative positions Hyderabad as a forward-looking city that prioritises human-centric infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and innovative governance. The success of the Core Urban City Area transformation is expected to set a benchmark for other Indian cities seeking balanced, inclusive, and technologically advanced urban development.
