Hyderabad HYDRAA Secures 13 Acres Government Land Worth Rs 1300 Crore

Hyderabad authorities have successfully reclaimed 13 acres of government land in Nizampet, estimated at Rs 1,300 crore, following an enforcement drive led by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA). The operation highlights the city’s commitment to safeguarding public assets amid increasing pressures from illegal encroachments in fast-expanding urban areas.

The land, situated in Nizampet village under Bachupally mandal, Medchal–Malkajgiri district, had come under scrutiny after revenue officials flagged attempts at unauthorised occupation. HYDRAA’s intervention followed complaints about temporary structures being erected and sections of the property already occupied for residential purposes. The recovered plots fall under Survey Numbers 186, 191, and 334. An official familiar with the operation stated, “Approximately four acres in Survey No. 334 had existing residential structures. HYDRAA’s focus was to secure the remaining 13 acres without displacing legitimate residents while ensuring long-term protection against further encroachments.” Temporary sheds identified as illegal were dismantled, and the perimeter was reinforced with fencing and official signage to denote government ownership clearly. The reclamation drive involved close coordination between HYDRAA personnel and local revenue authorities, combining on-ground surveys, verification of property records, and rapid response measures. Industry experts note that such proactive approaches are crucial in urban regions like Hyderabad, where real estate pressures and informal settlements can quickly lead to substantial financial losses in public property if unchecked.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath emphasised the agency’s ongoing mandate: “Protecting public assets requires vigilance and swift action. HYDRAA will continue collaborating with revenue officials to prevent encroachments and maintain the integrity of government land across the metropolitan area.” The agency has conducted similar operations in other rapidly urbanising pockets of Hyderabad, reflecting a broader strategy to balance development with public asset preservation. Urban planners highlight that securing government land not only prevents illegal settlements but also opens opportunities for sustainable city planning. By safeguarding these plots, authorities can ensure their eventual use aligns with planned infrastructure, green spaces, and community services, supporting Hyderabad’s vision of inclusive and environmentally conscious urban growth.

HYDRAA’s initiative in Nizampet underscores the importance of institutional vigilance in protecting public assets, mitigating financial risk, and supporting orderly urban expansion. Residents and local authorities expressed optimism that such interventions will deter future encroachments and reinforce the city’s commitment to transparent land management.
