The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the second phase ‘B’ of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project are slated for approval in the upcoming state cabinet meeting scheduled for June 5.
This crucial step follows the submission of comprehensive DPRs for three new metro routes by the Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail Limited (HAML) to the state government last month. The proposed expansion, valued at an estimated ₹19,579 crore, promises to dramatically enhance public transportation across the city, contributing to a more efficient, eco-friendly, and accessible urban landscape for millions. The second stage of Hyderabad’s ambitious metro project is strategically divided into two distinct components: Phase 2 ‘A’ and Phase 2 ‘B’. While Phase 2 ‘A’, encompassing five routes with an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore, is currently under review by the central government, Phase 2 ‘B’ is envisioned as a joint venture between the state and central governments. Upon receiving the imperative state cabinet approval, the DPRs for Phase 2 ‘B’ will be promptly forwarded to the Centre for its final sanction.

Phase 2 ‘B’ specifically outlines three vital corridors, spanning a total distance of 86.1 kilometres and incorporating 32 new stations. The proposed corridors include a 22-kilometre stretch from JBS to Shameerpet, featuring 14 stations; a 24.5-kilometre line connecting JBS to Medchal, with 18 stations; and a substantial 39.6-kilometre stretch proposed from Shamshabad Airport to a “Fourth City” area, indicating foresight in planning for future urban growth.
