The Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC) is set to move forward with the floating of tenders for selecting an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, according to Union Minister Piyush Goyal. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Goyal emphasised the collaborative efforts of the Central Government and the Andhra Pradesh government in driving the project.
Long-Delayed Project Gains Momentum
Initially announced in 2007, the HBIC remained dormant until its approval in 2020. Minister Goyal pointed out that earlier announcements, made just before the 2014 elections, lacked actionable follow-through. The project’s technical load specifications were finalised in August 2024, marking a significant milestone. Goyal highlighted that the state government, in partnership with the Centre, is committed to ensuring a transparent and efficient tendering process for contractor selection.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
The HBIC aims to create a robust infrastructure network that will link Hyderabad and Bengaluru while strategically integrating with the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC) and the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC). This interconnected framework is poised to accelerate economic development, attract investments, and establish a seamless industrial ecosystem across South India.
Orvakal Node: A Key Focus Area
A major highlight of the HBIC is the Orvakal Node in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district. Spanning approximately 4,742 acres near NH 40, this development promises exceptional connectivity to urban and industrial centres, including Hyderabad, Kurnool, and Chennai. The node is expected to emerge as a vital industrial hub, spurring job creation and fostering regional economic growth.
This transformative project is anticipated to strengthen South India’s industrial landscape, making it a focal point for infrastructure development and economic progress.
