Hyderabad Airport Expands Logistics Hub

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has announced the full acquisition of ESR GMR Logistics Park Private Limited (EGLPPL).

Previously holding a 30% stake through its subsidiary, GMR Hyderabad Aerotropolis Limited (GHAL), GHIAL has now secured the remaining shares, making EGLPPL a wholly owned subsidiary.  This acquisition underscores GHIAL’s commitment to enhancing supply chain infrastructure and integrating logistics operations within its expanding aerotropolis. The ESR GMR Logistics Park, situated adjacent to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, spans 66 acres and offers over 1.7 million square feet of Grade A+ warehousing and industrial space. The park caters to diverse sectors, including e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, cold chain logistics, and light manufacturing.

With dedicated truck entry and exit points, robust utilities, and proximity to key transportation corridors, the park is strategically positioned to serve as a critical node in the region’s logistics network. GHIAL’s acquisition aligns with its vision to develop Hyderabad AeroCity—a 1,500-acre integrated mixed-use development encompassing business, retail, aerospace, industrial, and hospitality sectors. By consolidating ownership of the logistics park, GHIAL aims to streamline operations, foster synergies between airport and logistics functions, and create a cohesive ecosystem that supports both cargo and passenger services.

This acquisition also reflects GHIAL’s commitment to sustainable urban development. The logistics park is designed with energy-efficient infrastructure, water and waste management systems, and the potential for solar energy integration. These initiatives contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the logistics operations and align with broader environmental objectives. Furthermore, the integration of logistics services within the airport precinct facilitates the development of a green and smart city model. The proximity to the airport reduces transportation emissions, while the planned metro connectivity enhances accessibility and promotes public transportation use.

The full acquisition of ESR GMR Logistics Park positions GHIAL to leverage its enhanced control over logistics operations to attract more industries reliant on rapid supply chains. Sectors such as e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing are expected to benefit from the improved infrastructure and connectivity, leading to increased investment and job creation in the region. The move also aligns with national objectives to develop sustainable industrial corridors and promote green urbanisation. By integrating logistics functions within the airport ecosystem, GHIAL is setting a precedent for future developments that balance commercial growth with environmental stewardship.

GHIAL’s acquisition of ESR GMR Logistics Park marks a significant step in the evolution of Hyderabad’s logistics and urban infrastructure. By consolidating ownership, GHIAL aims to create a more efficient, sustainable, and integrated logistics network that supports the growth of the aerotropolis and contributes to the region’s economic development. As the logistics sector continues to evolve, this strategic move positions GHIAL at the forefront of creating smart, sustainable urban environments in India.
