HMWSSB MD Takes Action Amidst Heavy Rainfall

Officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), has directed a series of pre-emptive measures to address potential flooding and water management issues across the city. With the incessant rains causing concern, the IAS officer has instructed officials and Emergency Response Teams (ERT) to remain vigilant and proactive to mitigate any adverse effects.

On Sunday, Reddy conducted a comprehensive inspection of various city locations, accompanied by key officials. His visit focused on critical areas including the sewerage desilting operations at Mehdipatnam and the MNDC building under Division 3. He emphasised the need for heightened attention in zones prone to frequent sewage overflows, stressing the importance of maintaining effective drainage systems to prevent waterlogging and sanitary issues. During the visit to Manikonda Secretariat Colony, Reddy also assessed the quality of drinking water amidst the heavy rains. His inspection aimed to ensure that water supply standards were upheld and expressed satisfaction with the current water quality, reassuring residents of the continued safety of their drinking water.

Furthermore, Reddy’s tour included the Twin Reservoirs—Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar (Gandipet)—which have been heavily impacted by the recent downpours in their upper catchment areas. Observing the rising water levels at these critical reservoirs, he alerted revenue and other concerned officials about the increased risk of flooding. Reddy urged continuous monitoring and assessment of the flood situation to preemptively address any potential hazards arising from the swollen reservoirs. This proactive approach by the HMWSSB underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining urban infrastructure resilience and ensuring public safety in the face of extreme weather conditions.
