Hyderabad’s historic Kacheguda Railway Station has undergone a remarkable transformation, unveiling a new illuminated facade as part of a Rs 2.23 crore initiative funded by the Union Ministry of Tourism. The inauguration, led by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, coincided with the station’s centenary celebrations, highlighting its architectural grandeur and cultural significance.
Constructed in 1916 during the Nizam era, Kacheguda Station is renowned for its Gothic architectural style. The recent enhancement involved the installation of 785 lighting fixtures, designed to accentuate the station’s intricate details and provide a captivating visual experience, particularly after dusk. This initiative aims to bolster heritage tourism and foster a deeper connection between the public and the nation’s architectural heritage. Minister Reddy emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving and showcasing India’s rich cultural landmarks. He expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Tourism for their support in bringing this project to fruition, underscoring the importance of such initiatives in promoting national pride and tourism.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Kacheguda Station stands as a testament to sustainable development. It has been recognized as India’s first energy-efficient ‘A1 Category’ railway station, achieving 100% energy efficiency through the replacement of conventional lighting with LED fixtures, installation of energy-efficient fans and air conditioners, and the integration of solar panels. These measures have resulted in significant energy savings and a reduction in carbon footprint, aligning with the nation’s environmental goals. Looking ahead, the station is slated for further redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with an investment of Rs 421.66 crore. This comprehensive redevelopment plan aims to enhance passenger amenities while preserving the station’s historic essence, ensuring it continues to serve as a vital transportation hub and a beacon of India’s architectural and cultural heritage.
