Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated development projects worth ₹100.95 crore in the Rohru assembly segment of Shimla district on Saturday. These initiatives span agriculture, education, and infrastructure.
A ₹29.22 crore ultra-modern grading and controlled atmosphere (CA) storage facility was unveiled, increasing apple storage capacity from 700 metric tonnes (MT) to 2,031 MT. Additionally, state-of-the-art machinery worth ₹20.93 crore, capable of grading 5 MT of apples per hour, was installed. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a ₹2.79 crore Government Ayurvedic Hospital, two drinking water schemes costing ₹8.95 crore, and laid the foundation for ₹51.74 crore road projects, including the strengthening of several key routes. He also announced an ₹8.25 crore hostel for Seema College, Rohru, alongside plans to initiate a B.Ed. programme and a multipurpose building for the college.
Addressing the college’s annual function, Sukhu announced that the college would be renamed after former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. Criticising the previous BJP government for budgetary mismanagement, Sukhu outlined his government’s commitment to vocational courses and better education infrastructure. Education Minister Rohit Thakur highlighted the approval of 15,000 posts in the education department, emphasising ongoing efforts to uplift apple orchardists and improve road connectivity in Rohru. MLA Mohan Lal Brakta welcomed the Chief Minister, while students presented a cultural programme, earning ₹1 lakh in appreciation from Sukhu. The event saw participation from various dignitaries, including Vice President Zila Parishad, Shimla, Surendra Retka, and Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap.
