Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Ahmedabad’s East

Ahmedabad has been grappling with severe waterlogging in its eastern districts following a significant weather event. On a day marked by intermittent showers, the city saw a notable shift in weather conditions by late afternoon. After a brief respite in the morning, dark clouds gathered around 5 pm, heralding a torrential downpour that lasted until 7 pm. This heavy rainfall primarily impacted the eastern parts of the city, while western areas experienced only light showers.

The day’s rainfall totalled an average of 28.24 mm across Ahmedabad, with the majority falling during the two-hour deluge from 5 pm to 7 pm. Specific regions in the east bore the brunt of the downpour, with Naroda recording a remarkable 100 mm (4 inches) of rain during this period, and a total of 111 mm throughout the day. Other areas such as Maninagar, Kotarpur, Odhav, and Nikol also experienced substantial rainfall, with approximately two inches recorded.

The heavy rainfall has led to severe waterlogging in 25 locations across eastern Ahmedabad. This has caused significant disruptions and inconvenience for residents, with streets and low-lying areas inundated. The situation underscores the city’s vulnerability to sudden weather changes and the need for effective drainage and water management systems. As the city continues to deal with the aftermath, authorities will need to address the immediate concerns of waterlogging and prepare for future weather events to mitigate similar issues.
