Health Authorities in Udaipur Vigilant Amid Suspected Chandipura Virus Cases

Jaipur: Health officials in Udaipur have heightened surveillance measures following reports of four child deaths suspected to be linked to the Chandipura virus in Himmatnagar, Gujarat, near the Gujarat-Rajasthan border. The incidents have prompted swift action, particularly in the Balicha sector of Udaipur’s Kherwara block, where one child passed away on June 27 and another is currently under treatment at Himmatnagar’s civil hospital.

Doctor from CMHO of Udaipur confirmed that a four-year-old girl from Bawalwara sector in Kherwara is responding well to treatment after initially being admitted to the ICU. The cases have raised concerns due to symptoms resembling those associated with Chandipura virus infection. However, definitive diagnoses await laboratory confirmation from the National Institute of Virology, where samples have been dispatched. Director of Public Health emphasized the absence of severe Chandipura virus cases currently under treatment in Udaipur, underscoring ongoing efforts to prevent further spread. Authorities have issued directives to increase vigilance and promptly send any suspected samples to SMS Medical College for further evaluation.

“We have received alerts from our counterparts in Gujarat regarding these suspected cases. While the symptoms suggest Chandipura virus, we are awaiting test results for confirmation,” stated officials involved in the surveillance efforts. The response includes intensified monitoring and surveys in affected areas, although subsequent house-to-house surveys in 35 residences have not revealed additional cases exhibiting Chandipura virus symptoms. This proactive approach underscores the health department’s commitment to preemptive measures against potential outbreaks, ensuring public health remains a top priority.

“The collaboration between health departments across state borders is crucial in swiftly responding to infectious disease threats like Chandipura virus. Our focus remains on early detection, containment, and ensuring adequate medical support for affected individuals,” highlighted health officials. As Udaipur remains on alert, the coordinated efforts of health teams and rigorous monitoring protocols exemplify proactive strategies aimed at safeguarding public health amidst evolving epidemiological challenges.
