Hadapsar satellite terminal and bridges, impacting services until July 16
The Central Railway’s Pune Division is currently undertaking critical infrastructure upgrades, including pre-Non-Interlocking works for a new satellite terminal at Hadapsar and the simultaneous replacement of two vital bridges. These strategic interventions, impacting train services until July 16, 2025, are designed to significantly enhance the region’s rail connectivity, streamline operations, and lay the groundwork for a more efficient and sustainable urban transit future.
The ongoing pre-Non-Interlocking (Pre-NI) and Non-Interlocking (NI) works are foundational to the development of a modern satellite terminal at Hadapsar Railway Station, situated within the crucial Daund-Pune section. This initiative is a forward-looking step to decentralise passenger traffic from the main Pune Junction, thereby optimising operational efficiency and reducing congestion. The establishment of a dedicated satellite terminal is expected to provide commuters with improved access and reduce travel times, fostering a more equitable distribution of rail services across the city.
Concurrently, the division is executing the vital replacement of two key bridges, Bridge No. 201/1 and Bridge No. 227/1, between Hadapsar and Yevat. Utilising the advanced Cut & Cover method for installing RCC segmental boxes, these replacements are paramount for ensuring the long-term structural integrity and safety of the rail network. Modernising these critical components of the infrastructure is a proactive measure that guarantees reliable and secure passage for trains, contributing to the overall resilience and sustainability of the railway system for decades to come.
These infrastructure augmentations, while causing temporary adjustments to train schedules, are integral to Pune’s broader vision of becoming a zero net carbon and eco-friendly urban hub. By enhancing the capacity and efficiency of the railway network, the project implicitly encourages greater reliance on public transport, a crucial step in reducing vehicular emissions and mitigating the city’s carbon footprint. Furthermore, a more robust and accessible rail system promotes gender-neutral mobility, offering safe and dependable travel options for all residents, thereby fostering a more inclusive and equitable urban environment.
The comprehensive nature of these works, which commenced on July 11 and culminate with a special traffic and power block on July 16, reflects a strategic investment in Pune’s future logistical landscape. While commuters might experience minor disruptions during this brief period, the long-term benefits of a modernised, safer, and more efficient railway infrastructure are substantial. This proactive approach to maintenance and development underscores the commitment to providing seamless connectivity, which is vital for the city’s economic growth and the well-being of its populace. The upgraded facilities at Hadapsar will serve as a testament to Pune’s dedication to sustainable urban development.
