Gurugram’s Traffic Relief: NHAI Flyover Project Underway

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated a crucial infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity in the National Capital Region. The latest endeavour is the construction of an 183-metre-long, two-lane flyover that will bridge the Dwarka Expressway with the under-construction Gurugram Rewari Highway.

This strategic flyover, positioned near the intersection of Old Pataudi Road and Dwarka Expressway, is expected to alleviate congestion and streamline traffic flow in the region. Scheduled to be completed by March 2025, the flyover is designed to facilitate the unidirectional movement of high-speed traffic from Delhi towards the Rewari Pataudi Highway. With a width of 11 metres, the structure aims to integrate seamlessly into the broader Gurugram Rewari highway project, which is projected for completion by December 2024. This timeline is subject to potential delays due to the necessary relocation of high-tension power lines, which could take approximately three to four months.

In the interim, commuters will face a temporary inconvenience as they will need to take a U-turn at the intersection of Gurugram Pataudi Road and Dwarka Expressway to continue towards Wazirpur, Pataudi, and Rewari. NHAI officials have assured that measures are in place to minimise disruptions during the flyover’s construction, which is expected to be challenging due to the high-speed traffic on the Dwarka Expressway. The Gurugram Rewari National Highway project, estimated at Rs900 crore, has faced several setbacks since its inception in 2020. These include delays related to tree cutting, encroachment removal, and land disputes. However, most of these issues have been addressed, and the project is now on track for completion by the end of this year.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has highlighted that this flyover, alongside other infrastructure developments such as the elevated road on Southern Peripheral Road and the new underpass on Dwarka Expressway near Basai, will significantly enhance traffic management. These improvements are expected to boost connectivity with neighbouring towns including Farukhnagar, Pataudi, Rewari, and Sohna, facilitating smoother transit and supporting the city’s growing transportation needs.
