Gurugram SPR Elevated Corridor Tender Opens For Bids
Gurugram’s fast-expanding southern districts are set for a significant mobility upgrade after authorities issued a tender for a high-capacity elevated corridor along the Southern Peripheral Road Gurugram, a key urban route linking residential sectors with major regional highways.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has invited bids for a ₹755-crore project that will transform the corridor between Vatika Chowk and National Highway-48 into a signal-free route designed to ease congestion and improve east-west connectivity across the city. The proposed infrastructure will include a 4.2-kilometre elevated corridor with four lanes in each direction, supported by parallel service roads and ramps at major junctions. The design also incorporates a dedicated interchange at NH-48 to ensure seamless integration with the national highway network and surrounding arterial roads.
Transport planners say the Southern Peripheral Road Gurugram has evolved into one of the city’s most important urban mobility corridors over the past decade. The road connects emerging residential clusters in southern sectors with major employment zones, including Cyber City, Udyog Vihar and the wider Delhi-NCR economic region. Rapid real estate development along the corridor has increased traffic volumes substantially, leading to frequent congestion at signalised intersections. The elevated design aims to separate through-traffic from local vehicle movement. Long-distance commuters travelling between NH-48, the Dwarka Expressway and Sohna Road will be able to bypass traffic signals using the elevated carriageway, while service roads at ground level will manage neighbourhood access. This multi-layered road design is intended to reduce bottlenecks and improve travel times during peak hours.
Urban infrastructure experts note that the project is part of a broader effort to strengthen regional connectivity across the National Capital Region. Once operational, the corridor will enhance links between key transport routes including the Dwarka Expressway, NH-48 and the Gurugram-Sohna Elevated Corridor, creating a more integrated road network across southern Gurugram. The tender also covers the development, maintenance and operational management of the elevated corridor, signalling a long-term infrastructure approach aimed at sustaining road performance as traffic volumes continue to rise. Authorities expect the project to be completed within approximately 30 months after the contract is awarded.
Urban planners say such road upgrades increasingly play a central role in shaping the growth of satellite business districts across NCR cities. High-capacity transport corridors can unlock new residential and commercial development zones while reducing pressure on older, saturated roads. However, experts also emphasise that road expansion alone cannot fully address the long-term mobility challenges of rapidly growing cities like Gurugram. Integrating public transport systems, improving pedestrian infrastructure and encouraging transit-oriented development will remain essential for building a more sustainable urban mobility ecosystem.
For now, the Southern Peripheral Road Gurugram project represents one of the most significant road infrastructure upgrades underway in the city’s southern belt. If executed effectively, the elevated corridor could help streamline commuter movement, support new economic clusters and reinforce Gurugram’s role as a key business hub within the Delhi-NCR region.
