Gurugram NH-48 Upgrade Gets Rs 282 Crore Green Signal for Safer Travel

Gurugram’s stretch of National Highway 48 is set for a major infrastructural overhaul, with the Centre approving ₹282 crore for the construction of four new flyovers and nine foot overbridges along the Gurgaon–Kotputli–Jaipur corridor. The move aims to decongest traffic, enhance pedestrian safety, and strengthen regional connectivity, officials said. Construction is expected to significantly improve commuter experience and address accident-prone points along the busy highway.

The flyovers will rise at Panchgaon Chowk, Rathiwas, near Hero Company, and Sahlawas, while the foot overbridges will serve key points including Shikhopur, Manesar, Binola, Rathiwas, Malpura, Jaisinghpurkhera, Sidhrawali, Kharkhara, and Khijuri. Additional engineering works are also part of the project, which is designed to ensure a smoother flow of vehicles and safer movement for pedestrians. Officials highlighted that this development forms part of the government’s broader strategy to expand India’s highway network. From 91,000 km in 2014, the national highways network has grown to over 1.46 lakh km, now ranking as the second-largest globally. High-speed corrido rs have increased dramatically from 93 km to 2,474 km, while four-lane and above highways have grown 2.5 times over the past decade.

Highway construction has accelerated to 33.8 km per day in 2023–24 from 12.1 km per day in 2014–15, supported by higher spending and strategic allocations. Experts said that the focus on modernised infrastructure is a critical driver for sustainable urban mobility and regional economic growth. The upgraded NH-48 stretch is expected to improve traffic conditions in Gurugram, Rewari, and adjoining districts, officials explained. The flyovers will alleviate congestion at high-traffic junctions, while foot overbridges equipped with ramps, stairways, and lighting will significantly enhance pedestrian safety.

Further projects in the Delhi-NCR region include extensions of the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra and Delhi–Dehradun expressways, eastern UER-II extensions, and new elevated corridors. Completed projects worth ₹80,545 crore covering 1,679 km exemplify India’s rapid infrastructure growth, supporting connectivity, trade, and urban development. Officials emphasised that strategic public infrastructure investment remains the backbone of economic progress. “Expanding national highways and improving commuter safety will not only facilitate regional trade but also improve quality of life for residents,” experts said. The Gurugram–Jaipur NH-48 project is expected to serve as a model for combining traffic efficiency with sustainable urban planning.
