Gurugram Metro Secures HSVP Land For Casting Yard, Project Work Accelerates Rapidly

The Gurugram Metro project has taken a decisive step forward with the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) handing over 5.23 hectares of land in Sector 33 to Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) for the establishment of a casting yard. The move comes after HSVP cleared encroachments from the designated site, paving the way for critical construction work to begin this month.

Officials confirmed that the land transfer, approved by senior state authorities, will remain valid for four years. The yard, located in Transport Nagar, will serve as the operational hub for precast segments required in the construction of metro viaducts and stations. Such casting yards are essential in ensuring timely and cost-efficient delivery of large-scale urban rail projects. A senior HSVP official noted that a demolition drive was recently carried out to remove illegal structures on the plot, leaving only small portions under judicial stay. “We have ensured the land is handed over free of legal complications so that metro construction is not delayed,” the official said.

GMRL has also sought additional land in Sector 44, opposite the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) office, to facilitate piling work along the metro alignment. According to project insiders, the formal ground-breaking ceremony, or Bhoomi Poojan, is likely to be held in mid-September, with preparatory works already in progress. The Gurugram Metro project, a much-awaited urban transport solution, is expected to ease traffic congestion across the city’s arterial routes and provide sustainable mobility to its rapidly growing population. Officials from GMRL have submitted a comprehensive traffic diversion plan to the city’s traffic police for approval, signalling readiness to begin large-scale civil works once clearance is secured.

Experts point out that the development of metro infrastructure is critical to the city’s future, as Gurugram continues to attract global businesses and expand its residential footprint. A senior urban transport expert said, “Land availability for staging and construction facilities is one of the most challenging aspects of metro projects. Timely clearance of land hurdles shows intent from both the state and project agencies to accelerate progress.” With the project gaining momentum, residents can expect visible construction activity before the end of the month. The metro is envisioned as a sustainable, carbon-efficient mode of transport that aligns with the state’s long-term goal of reducing vehicular emissions and fostering eco-friendly urban growth.

While challenges remain in synchronising traffic management, construction activity, and public convenience, the recent land transfer is being viewed as a turning point. The project, once operational, promises to reshape mobility in Gurugram by reducing road congestion and providing equitable access to public transport.
