Gurugram Metro Expansion Begins with 15 Stations Under Rs1286 Cr Phase One Plan

Gurugram is on the verge of a major urban transformation as it prepares to launch its first independent metro network. Marking a new chapter in the city’s transit infrastructure, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has shortlisted six of the eight companies that submitted bids for Phase One of the project. The ₹1,286 crore contract is expected to be awarded by the end of July, paving the way for construction to begin shortly thereafter.

Phase One will cover a 15.22-kilometre stretch connecting Millennium City Centre to Sector 101, with 15 metro stations planned along the route. The project will also include a 1.85-kilometre spur linking to the Dwarka Expressway and a ramp to the proposed metro depot at Sector 33. The Millennium City Centre station will serve as an interchange with the Delhi Metro, ensuring seamless connectivity for daily commuters. Once complete, the project will reduce the city’s dependence on the Rapid Metro and Delhi Metro, giving Gurugram its own dedicated and self-sufficient metro corridor for the first time.

The full metro network will be constructed in three phases. While the first phase includes core stations and infrastructure, the second phase is expected to connect Sector 9 to Cyber Hub, and the third will see the completion of the Sector 33 depot. In total, the Gurugram Metro project will span 28.5 kilometres and include 27 stations. According to urban planning experts, the metro is likely to influence real estate trends significantly, with properties near metro lines expected to appreciate by 10–25%.

Developers and investors are optimistic. Rakesh Yadav, CMD of Antariksha India Group, called the metro project “a historic step” that will attract global investors and boost demand for residential and commercial property. As Gurugram positions itself as a high-growth urban zone, the metro system is set to become a critical pillar of the city’s infrastructure.
