Gujarat Signs Deal to Expand E-Commerce Exports

The Government of Gujarat has signed a landmark partnership with Amazon India to scale e-commerce exports. The agreement was formalised between the state’s Commissionerate of MSMEs and Amazon’s flagship export arm, Amazon Global Selling, on the sidelines of the Export Connect 2025 event in Ahmedabad.

This alliance underscores the state’s commitment to digitally empower over 36 lakh MSMEs by offering them a global e-commerce launchpad. By enabling seamless access to international markets through Amazon’s vast global infrastructure, the initiative is poised to transform Gujarat’s export profile, especially for smaller enterprises traditionally excluded from formal trade channels.Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Amazon will collaborate with the MSME department to deliver hands-on training, export enablement programmes, and capacity-building workshops across the state. Crucially, the partnership includes the creation of a dedicated Export Community in Gandhinagar, envisioned as a peer-led support ecosystem for local exporters. These forums will also promote ongoing dialogue, mentorship, and digital literacy around cross-border e-commerce.

Amazon’s intervention will not be limited to seller training. The firm will also equip Gujarat’s MSME Commissionerate officials with specialised knowledge of international e-commerce protocols, who in turn will cascade this expertise to entrepreneurs and artisans at the grassroots level. This capacity-building approach is designed to foster institutional depth, ensuring sustainability beyond the life of the programme.Speaking about the agreement, Srinidhi Kalvapudi, Head of Amazon Global Selling India, reiterated the company’s commitment to “democratising exports for Indian businesses of all sizes.” He highlighted that such strategic state-level partnerships align with Amazon’s broader goal to enable cumulative e-commerce exports worth $80 billion from India by 2030.

The Government of Gujarat views this partnership as a catalyst for integrating local enterprises into the global digital economy. MSME Commissioner Sandip Sagale noted that enhancing the export potential of homegrown entrepreneurs is a key pillar of the state’s economic agenda. He welcomed Amazon’s initiative as timely, forward-looking, and in tune with Gujarat’s vision of inclusive digital transformation. The collaboration is also expected to diversify Gujarat’s export basket, especially in non-traditional product segments like handicrafts, garments, eco-friendly consumer goods, and sustainable lifestyle products areas where Indian MSMEs have unique competitive advantages. For a state already known as a manufacturing powerhouse, e-commerce offers a fresh, green route to global markets with lower logistical footprints and decentralised participation.

As digital exports gain traction globally, this alliance between the Gujarat Government and Amazon reflects a growing consensus: that the future of trade lies not just in ports and warehouses, but in platforms, digital literacy, and entrepreneurial inclusion. While the impact will unfold gradually, the groundwork laid through this MoU signals a paradigm shift in how Indian MSMEs engage with the world on their own terms, through sustainable, tech-enabled pathways that promise growth without exclusion.
